The short answer.
A payment link doesn't have to process payments. Pay-Me is a page with your real payment methods, like bank transfer, PayPal, Wise or Revolut, locked behind a password on your Folio. You share the password with a client, they open the link and pay you directly through whichever method suits you both. No processor sits in the middle, so there's no fee, no percentage and no waiting for a payout.
Getting paid is the part nobody built.
Link-in-bio tools show your work, then leave the money to a DM. You paste your IBAN into a chat and feel small, or you chase a third follow-up on an invoice. The tools that do handle money, like Stripe payment links or creator storefronts, are built for selling products to strangers: they process the payment, take their cut and pay you out on their schedule. For a freelancer being paid by a known client, that middleman adds cost without adding anything.
How Pay-Me works.
- 1
Add your methods
PayPal, Wise, Revolut, bank transfer and more, stored encrypted behind a password.
- 2
Share the password
Give it to the client you want to pay you. No one else can see your details.
- 3
They pay you directly
Your client opens the link, unlocks it and pays you through the method they pick. No sign-up, no app, no fee.
Why no processor is a feature.
Payment processors earn their fee when you're selling to strangers who need buyer protection and card checkout. A client who hired you isn't a stranger. They're happy to pay by bank transfer or PayPal, they just need the details, cleanly and at the right moment. Cutting the processor means the full invoice lands in your account, there's no middleman deciding when you get paid or freezing a payout, and there's no checkout to break. Some link-in-bio tools take up to 12% of what moves through them. Pay-Me takes nothing, structurally, because it never handles the payment.
Private by design.
Your details are encrypted and never appear on your public page. Only someone with the password sees them, you choose who that is, and reveal attempts are rate-limited. It's the difference between your bank details living in dozens of chat histories and living in one place you control. More on the safety side in how to share bank details safely.
Questions
Does Folio process payments?
No. Pay-Me stores and reveals your payment instructions. The money goes straight from your client to you, through your bank, PayPal, Wise or whatever you add.
Is there a fee?
None. No subscription, no percentage, no payout schedule. You keep 100%.
How is this different from a Stripe payment link?
A Stripe link processes a card payment and charges a processing fee. Pay-Me shares your actual payment details privately so the client pays you directly. For client work, that's usually all you need.
Can I take a deposit with it?
Yes. Agree the deposit, share the password and the client pays it through your preferred method. How much to ask for is covered in our deposit guide.
Do my clients need an account?
No. They open your link, enter the password and see how to pay you.
Is my info encrypted?
Yes, encrypted at rest and only revealed with the correct password.
Is it free?
Yes. Pay-Me is part of Folio, which is free with no paywall.
